Shadow Shot Sunday – Motorcycles

CIMG7925-001

The Sun decided to come out for a while yesterday (after rather a long absence) – and so did I.

In the town square, a surprise was waiting for me: Lots and lots of motorcycles!

Friday My Town: Time

Somtimes, Time rushes by incredibly fast!

CIMG0807-1

At other times, it seems to go round in circles …

… or just stand still.

We do our best to measure it

and keep it

CIMG7870-001

and preserve it

It keeps slipping away from us when we don’t notice

… and we’ll probably never quite understand it.

DSCN1705

Can you imagine us years from today,
sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy
Old friends, memory brushes the same years,
silently sharing the same fears ♫

“Time it was, and what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence, a time of confidences
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you.”

(Simon & Garfunkel: Bookends)

Ruby Tuesday: Demolition

The demolition of the old factory building down by the river is progressing slowly. I guess they intend to reuse some of the material – probably not in this spot, but somewhere.

Taking a walk across the cemetery close to where I live yesterday, I found two newly planted, wonderfully colourful flowerbeds as promise of more colour soon to come.

Friday My Town: Rule of Thirds

CIMG1837

I’ve been more or less stuck indoors for weeks now and am tired of the winter season, so I decided to go back to some pictures from last summer for this theme. Not that I was deliberately trying to apply the rule of thirds when I took them (not sure I’d ever heard of it except keeping the horizontal line at either 1/3 or 2/3 rather than in the middle) but I guess it’s kind of a compositinal instinct.

image

Rule of Thirds:  a compositional tool that places the subject of the photo  in an area of intersecting lines created by dividing the photo in 3rds horizontally and vertically.

All the photos in this post are from the countryside outside my town, the village where my father was born and raised, and where my parents moved back to live in their retirement years, and are now buried in the churchyard.

The photos are all from the same day, 21 July 2011.
(They’re all straight from the camera just as I took them.)

Friday My Town: Historic

The history of my town is pretty much founded on textile and fashion industry. So for the FMTSO Historic theme I’ll pick some of my photos from our Textile Museum.
