FMTSO: Vintage

My week got fuller than I expected with emergency visits to the dentist and whatnot, and I forgot or had no time or energy left to go photo hunting for ‘new’ vintage things…

However, back at Easter I briefly visited an antique shop in the countryside and snapped a few photos of what was on display outside. I think I blogged one or two of the photos before but don’t remember when/where… never mind.

The spinning wheel high up on the wall looked remarkably like one we have in ‘The House’ (my parents’ old place). Obviously ours is not unique then… Was green a common colour for spinning wheels?

The cherry blossom trees in our town park are of a variety that springs into bloom a couple of weeks later than many of the others planted around town. Lovely to have the blossoming season prolonged like that!

Ancient graffiti – Bronze Age rock carvings
(Not my town, but my photo – from the early 1990’s)

The rock carvings at Vitlycke, Tanumshede [in the province of Bohuslän, on the west coast] are among the best known in Sweden, and attract hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world every year. People began making the carvings here in the late Bronze Age, about 1800 B.C. Over the following centuries, people returned to create new carvings on this religious site, and the last carvings were made just before the birth of Christ.

The Borås Textile Museum is closed this year, preparing for a move to different premises.

Some photos from my archives might give you an idea why they’ll need at least a couple of years for the move…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some people (staff included) question the need to move at all, as the premises they’ve been in for the last couple of decades are well suited for the museum.

(Personally I liked it were it was, because it was close to where I live! )

But one of the purposes, as I understand it, is to integrate the museum with the Textile College (all in other newly renovated old textile industry buildings).

I guess even museums have to move with the times!
