FMTSO: The Senses

One weekend in May and one in September we have a big Spring vs Autumn Market, which takes up pretty much the whole of the inner city. It’s an occasion which has a lot to offer for all five senses: Much to see, lots of noise, a blend of all sorts of smells, yummy things to taste, and toys and things crying out to be touched and squeezed…

The Borås Textile Museum is closed this year, preparing for a move to different premises.

Some photos from my archives might give you an idea why they’ll need at least a couple of years for the move…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some people (staff included) question the need to move at all, as the premises they’ve been in for the last couple of decades are well suited for the museum.

(Personally I liked it were it was, because it was close to where I live! )

But one of the purposes, as I understand it, is to integrate the museum with the Textile College (all in other newly renovated old textile industry buildings).

I guess even museums have to move with the times!

FMTSO: The Bridges of Borås City

The Friday My Town Shoout Out theme  of the week is:  The Letter Your Town Begins With.

One B-word it’s hard to avoid in Borås is BRIDGES.
Besides the river running through town, there are also railways and motorways to contribute to the intricate maze of how to get from one place to another.

Going into town, I have to cross at least one bridge over the railway, one bridge over the river, and one underpass under the motorway.

 

The railway has to cross the river, too.

 

Where I live now, I can choose from a few different ways to walk into town so need not always go the same way.

 

There are four footbridges leading to/from the Town Park, which is situated on a peninsula.

Friday My Town: “I Remember When…”

I remember when “my town” meant a different town than the one where I live now… During my twenties I lived in Karlstad on the northern shore of Lake Vänern. The willow tree leaning out over the river Klarälven was my landmark for where to turn into my street from the walk along the river. The tree is no longer there, I discovered on a visit years after I’d moved away. In my memory it will always be, though!

 

Neither are they floating timber down the river any more.
(Didn’t I post this photo just recently?!)

… Oh, now I remember… I did post that middle photo just recently! For the FMTSO theme “me and my cameras”.
(In the early 2000’s, I had a half-random choice of about 250 negatives from between 1984-2000 transferred to a “memory” CD – some kind of special offer, I think. Also copied into an easy-access folder on my computer…)

So what camera am I holding then, in that photo above? Deduction: It must belong to the invisible other friend who was using mine…
