FMTSO/Weekend Reflections

Friday My Town Shoot Out: “My Weakness”

“When driving through town where does the car pull you? Is there someplace you just can't resist stopping? A favorite shop, store, house....? Show us in pics.”

---

I don’t drive… I walk.
There are some views in town I always return to.
I love the river, and trying to catch reflections in the water.
Trees, sculptures, old factories, churches…

A wonderfully rounded old factory building, following the curve of the river;
and the tower of the town’s oldest church.

The Skyscraper

CIMG6962-002

Close to The Edge of the World (see my blog post 27.9),
a Tower is growing.

CIMG6966-001

It’s rising above my own horizon now; as I feared it would. This photo was taken through my window the other day. If I sit at the kitchen table, it’s out of view and I can pretend it’s not there. But the illusion goes away as soon as I take one or two steps to the right… :)

Luckily, I think they have almost reached the top now.
For while at least, it will be the highest building in town.

Can’t help it, I’ve come to (jokingly) think of it as the Tower of Babel

“Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves ” (Genesis 11:4)

This is what it’s supposed to look like when it’s finished.
(Obviously not my own photo!)

I’m afraid I still cannot see or enter any links at either Skywatch Friday or Friday My Town Shoot Out. (It was the same thing last week.) If anyone has a plausible explanation, please share it. (I suspect something to do with Google+. Which I’m not using.)

Weekend Reflections: Cherry Blossom Trees by the River

DSC_0502-001

DSC_0504-001

Photos taken with my cellphone camera (23 May 2013) while waiting for the bus in town. Summer has speeded along so quickly since then that the blossoming period is already over for these trees when I post this.

Water World Wednesday: Ice Formations

Behind the Old Mill (see previous post) there is an island in the river, and if you walk across that island, you come to the “untamed” part of the river:

Ruby Tuesday: Demolition

CIMG7860-001

CIMG7858-001

The demolition of the old factory building down by the river is progressing slowly. I guess they intend to reuse some of the material – probably not in this spot, but somewhere.

Winter Shadows

CIMG7059-1

No use looking for water reflections today!
The river is hiding under a cover of ice and snow.
But hey - that’s my shadow out there!!!

Watery Wednesday: Goldeneye

CIMG5411-1

The most common birds in the river where I live are mallards; but I also keep seeing one Goldeneye, sometimes hanging out with the mallards, but often on his own. Back in the spring he had a mate, but now he appears to be single. Looks a little sad somehow, but perhaps I’m letting my imagination run away with me…

Watery Wednesday

Photo from two weeks ago. The big tree had dropped all its leaves, but the smaller ones had not, which created a special effect.

Friday My Town: Stairs

2011-09-10 spiral stairs

‘Up and down’ was one of the themes included in the local photo
marathon I took part in a few weeks ago… So I took a number of
shots of these spiral stairs outside a building. We were only allowed
to submit one photo per theme though, so the collage was made later!

A waterfall and a narrow set of stairs running down/up
the same hill in a large modern cemetery park.

At this spot in the river, the water descends down ‘stairs’ as well.

… ‘Whisper to the Wild Water’ …

CIMG3950

For Watery Wednesday

I borrowed the post title – Whisper to the Wild Water -
from a song/album by Maire (Moya) Brennan:

… … …

Around, around
Around I turn
Around I turn
In time

I heard Your name
Whisper to the wild water
I’ll be strong
I will survive

… … …

This is just a very small waterfall…
Still, standing close to it, the other sounds of the city
are drowned by the roar of the water.

You Looking At Me?

CIMG2448-2

For Shadow Shot Sunday:
Damselflies enjoying the sun, the river and the water lilies.
Zoomed in from quite a long distance I’m afraid.
I was hoping for one to land closer to me but no such luck.
