Friday My Town: Childhood Pleasures

CIMG3562

Climbing up on things. Just because you can!

I’m guessing some taller people were required
to get the Easter Bunny up there, though.

Friday My Town: Hidden Niches

CIMG7639-001

CIMG7698-001

This was a difficult theme for me this week. I’ve not had opportunity to be out and about much, there are very icy and unfriendly winds blowing outside anyway and people are withdrawing to their indoors hidden corners. I also have no tags in my photo archives that fit this theme.

However, above are two suggestions from the recent Home & Garden Fair – which can’t really be called hidden since the whole idea of a fair is to expose things; and although they may be doing their best to look like quiet spots, the whole thing was really an extremely noisy affair!

I also recalled the window niches in our old Town Hall/ Courthouse. They’re hidden in the sense that most people never go inside this building. I’ve been there a couple of times on Open House days with guided tours though.

And since this is not just any Friday but Good Friday:

The niche behind the altar in the oldest church in town;
a church where I have a few times participated in all of the liturgical Easter services, from “Last Supper” Thursday to “Emmaus” Monday. Together they constitute a whole drama; and the Midnight Mass between Easter Eve and Easter Sunday is one in itself.

More hidden niches will be revealed here:

Happy Easter

it would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly
while remaining an egg.”

The King’s Tomb

DSCN3127-1

“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark,
Mary of Magdala went to the tomb and saw that
the stone had been removed from the entrance…”

This is a late Neolithic cist tomb from around 1800-1500 B.C.
In local folklore it is known as The King’s Tomb.
An old legend says that a king was buried here,
on the spot where he died. But one day he shall rise again
from his grave, rejuvenated,
and will return to help the people in a time of need;
accompanied by his twelve warriors.

I have blogged about this tomb and story before, but it was long ago.
We happened to be passing by the place again on Good Friday.

Happy Easter To You

DSCN3030-1  DSCN3031

DSCN3034-1

This year’s Easter decorations in the town square includes a frog with
a pair of binoculars up in the Tree (which is a birch). To prevent you
from asking me why, I am asking you, because I really have no idea!!!
As far as I know, frogs have no special connection with Easter.

I might be taking a few days off from blogging this weekend.
I’m pre-scheduling this post, but if I remember,
I’ll link up to Skywatch Friday later.

Wishing you all

HAPPY EASTER!

Friday My Town–Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt rules:

* straight out of the camera, no editing
* one photo per word
* three words for each hunt
* add a fourth photo if you can find all three hunt words in one (or just post this one photo)
* hunt area includes your town, surrounding areas, surrounding countryside

The three words for the first FMTSO scavenger hunt were:
Round – Square – Triangular

Here’s what I found:

DSCN2663

Round Easter decorations in a shop window

DSCN2673

Square windows on a building in the park

DSCN2583

Triangular decoration on a building

Actually there are round and square shapes in the last photo too…
So not to overdo things, I think I’ll leave it at three pictures!

If you want to join the fun, go to My Town…Mr Linky
