The month of November is a challenge in itself:
With all the greenery gone, it’s a different world.

Mandarin Orange Monday: Waiting for the Storm

CIMG7526-003

October 28, 2013 – (Reuters) –
“Hurricane strength winds battered Britain and the Netherlands on Monday, killing five people, cutting power and forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights and train journeys before the storm barrelled further into mainland Europe.”

CIMG7526-005

Gusts of up to 99 mph (160 kph) lashed southern England and Wales today in the worst storm recorded in Britain in a decade, while Denmark and Sweden were bracing for the impact there.”

CIMG7526-006

Among other precautions, Sweden has cancelled all passenger trains in the south of the country ahead of the storm's arrival; and people are recommended to stay indoors.
The TV news at 6 pm reported  about 16500 households without electricity so far.

CIMG7526-007

Around where I live we are still waiting for the worst of the storm as I post this.

Skywatch/Treewatch Friday

After a cloudy/rainy week, we had an amazing blue sky again today. And still some leaves left on the trees… :)

Outdoor Wednesday: Autumn Colours

I’ve been out walking in the rain a lot this week… The colours in nature just now actually do not seem to even need the sun! The photos below are all from today and “straight out of the camera” (some of them cropped a little, but no colour editing).

Ruby Tuesday

DSC_0572

Straight out of my mobile phone camera (no editing) – glorious autumn colours in a parking lot in town.

And Good News – it seems InLinkz is suddenly “back on” for me (after having been invisible for me for two or three weeks, on any website using that linking service).

I never managed to figure out what was wrong, and have no idea how I got them back either.

While I can still see them, I take the opportunity to link to

FMTSO/Skywatch: Blowing in the Wind

Today I decided to do a “proper” Friday Shoot Out, i.e. take the camera out for a walk (on Friday afternoon), to see what I could find blowing in the wind.

The “problem” was, there wasn’t that much of a wind…

CIMG6746-001

Often it’s quite windy on my balcony, but today I could even sit out there reading for a while in the afternoon sun, just wearing jeans and short sleeves. Not bad for 20th September.

CIMG6753

Not much for the wind to blow on here! (Don’t ask me why ‘they’ cut everything off this tree. I have no idea. I only noticed it today as I was passing.) As you can see in the background, most trees are still green.

CIMG6756

They’ve added a sandbox to the playground since my last visit to this park. But the sand was not blowing about (and that blue carpet is still staying mysteriously put as well).

CIMG6760-001

Possibly a slight flutter of wind through my hair (?)

CIMG6766-001

One “Painted Lady” did indeed flutter about enjoying the flowers. But she hardly had to struggle against the wind.

CIMG6793-001

The rowan berries are red, but the leaves still green.

CIMG6789-001

Some of the maple trees have started to shift colour just a little…

CIMG6790-001

… but the few leaves dropped were lying rather tidily along the edge of the street. (I’m showing off my new shoes.)

CIMG6783-001

Well, finally I found something blowing in the wind!
(Flags belonging to the local electricity & cable company.)

Now I’m curious what others may have found…

Ruby Tuesday: November Colours

CIMG1744-001

Not much colour left in Nature in November, but the bare branches of these bushes still provide a splash of red along the edge of a cemetery close to where I live. I’m not sure what they’re called. The yellow tree on the left is a larch tree. Larches are conifers and yet decidious, which means that unlike fir and pine their needles turn yellow and fall off in the late autumn, leaving the trees leafless through the winter.

Ruby Tuesday: Rose Hip

CIMG1633-001

This is a photo from 21 October, and much has happened in Nature since then; but that doesn’t mean we can’t still have a bit of colour here, does it?

Leaves for Leontien

CIMG1283-001

For man, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together.
For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.

~ Edwin Way Teale ~

Scrolling through the Google Reader app on my phone this morning, I kept noticing “Leaves for Leontien” popping up on several of the blogs I’m following. I have not been following Leontien’s battle with cancer myself, but I thought I’d contribute to the collection of Leaves anyway…

Ruby Tuesday: Autumn Tree

'CIMG1081-001

Somehow the view in the park is not quite the same since they cut down a lot of the “background” trees…

To be fair, though, photos from previous years were also taken from another angle:
