FMTSO: Holiday Traditions

 

One of the holiday traditions in Sweden is to put up extra lights in almost every window. Electric candlesticks in a variety of sizes and shapes, and/or stars. It’s also common to put a wreath or other decoration on your front door:

I took these photos today on my walk to/from the supermarket. The stone building is an old factory; the yellow wooden house was once upon a time the residence of the managing director. Nowadays both buildings have been converted into offices.

Snow for Christmas is something we can’t make a tradition of in this part of Sweden, even if it does belong in our mind’s image of how it “should” be. This year we had a mild, stormy and rainy Christmas; with the water level in the river rising very high.

Ruby Tuesday: Meet Sara

After seeing the Madsnapper’s Wal-Mart pigs the other day, my own ‘Miss Piggy’ by name of Sara gave me an accusing look and wondered why other piggy banks get to be displayed on blogs, but not she, and does one really need to wear a tiara and a tu-tu to be called cute?! So I had to assure her that I find her very cute just as she is with her jungle pattern – and doing an excellent job of taking care  of my small change besides. When I promised her a spot on Ruby Tuesday, she blushed and looked pleased. (Her name is Sara because the Swedish word for “save” is “spara”.)

I hope this will be enough to keep her from going through my jewellry box when I’m not looking…

Happy Easter To You

 

This year’s Easter decorations in the town square includes a frog with
a pair of binoculars up in the Tree (which is a birch). To prevent you
from asking me why, I am asking you, because I really have no idea!!!
As far as I know, frogs have no special connection with Easter.

I might be taking a few days off from blogging this weekend.

Friday My Town–Scavenger Hunt

The Scavenger Hunt rules:

Snowbound

 

 

I was snowbound again during the weekend, so had to amuse myself with taking pictures of indoor decorations. (This is my kitchen window.)

According to weather forecasts, the past weekend was just a practice round for Christmas. More snow to be expected Thursday and all through Christmas Eve.
