Friday My Town – Macros

DSCN1107-1

I guess by now you’re all aware that we’re having a very cold winter in Sweden. One effect of this is that it’s rather hard these days to get close enough to anything outside to be able to take good macro shots!

Most attempts end up like this one (above) - out of focus!

2010-12-25 snow; macro

Taking macro shots of “just snow” is not easy. This one did not get interesting until I let the computer have a go at it, sharpening the contrasts and shadows etc.

These icicles grew on my balcony…

Furry suede mittens do not make it easy taking photographs. On the other hand, neither do frozen fingers… Well, at least I managed a macro shot of the embroidery on one of the mittens! (No I did not make the embroidery myself. It was there when I bought them.)

I’ve been out in the snow long enough! Let’s go inside…
These two little ones arrived with my human-size New Year’s guests.

The angel, sleepy though she seemed, decided to join the choir.

Watery Wednesday: Free Fall

Watery Wednesday # 121

DSCN1197-1

Those of you who have been following me for a while no doubt recognize this place by now. This little dam and waterfall in the river not far from where I live is a spot I keep returning to ever so often with my camera, whatever the season of the year. This very cold and frozen winter, it is also one of the few places where one will still find running water…

Mosaic Monday: The Park At Night

2011-01-02 TownPark; night; illumination

When my aunt and uncle were visiting on Sunday after New Year, we went into the town centre late at night for an icy-snowy-slippery walk in the town park, taking photos of the illuminated trees there.

The lights have been up all December but since I’m rarely in town after dark I had not seen them in their full glory. Unfortunately I still don’t have a proper tripod, only a small table-size one, but for some pictures I managed to place that on top of a wastepaper basket or similar for support. Not easy to keep the camera still free-hand long enough for night-shots (especially since my right arm is my “bad” one). So some turned out very blurry – but some quite good.

I will be showing some of them in bigger format later, but I thought I’d start out with a collage of some of the unedited shots for

Apologies for being a bit late - but maybe somewhere in the world it is still Monday?
