Sometimes after a hot day I go for a stroll around the old cemetery nearby where I live. Ooops… Seems I disturbed the whole colony of wild rabbits in the middle of their supper!
* “Watership Down” is the title of a novel by Richard Adams, featuring a group of (anthropomorphised) rabbits escaping the destruction of their warren and seeking a place to establish a new home.
When I look back on our sunny, beautiful summer this year,
it’s the quiet moments that stand out most to me.
Some rare such quiet moments on my own balcony
(cut out from the usual background noises
that come with living among lots of other people,
who also like to sit on their balconies
and to keep doors and windows open…)
Reading on a park bench
An occasional drive out into the countryside
with visiting friends or relatives
Wildflowers at the roadside
Having lunch in some unusual place
(like an old barn, now popular restaurant)
Or just a walk to the Museum Park in town,
and cup of tea at their summer café.
Sunny and still afternoons in the garden
at my parents’ old place outside town.
And a quiet early morning walk down by the lake.
Some days even the sun hesitates to get out of bed.

I spent the weekend at the House outside town. Saturday was the hottest day of the summer, 31°C in the shadow before thunder and rain brought release in the late afternoon.
Sunday morning was almost “chilly” in comparison – when I went for an early walk down by the lake I wore a cardigan over a long-sleeved shirt!
There were signs of sudden departures from the beach the afternoon before (the rain started around 3:30 pm)

On Monday night this week I saw this amazing sunset from my balcony. It looked rather like a fiery dragon!
It made me go out on a late walk around the block to get some additional perspectives of it.
