Ruby Tuesday: Silk and Calico

Last week I visited an exhibition of 18th century silk and printed calico fabrics at the Textile Museum; mostly canopies and bedcovers. I think all the silk covers displayed were originals; while some of the old calico prints had been copied to modern fabrics.

This wooden bed was a reconstruction made from original design drafts from the 18th century; and the calico fabrics were new ones using old patterns.

  1. so beautiful, i love the colors in the closeup and the beds are amazing, i like them but would not want to sleep in one. here in the south, they used to have sheer material hanging to keep out the bugs.

  2. What a stunning exhibit! Love the moody lighting round the drape of materials!

  3. I shudder thinking of the amount of work that must have gone into those original creations. Maybe the beauty of the bed canopy helped to make up for the discomfort.
