Last week I visited an exhibition of 18th century silk and printed calico fabrics at the Textile Museum; mostly canopies and bedcovers. I think all the silk covers displayed were originals; while some of the old calico prints had been copied to modern fabrics.
This wooden bed was a reconstruction made from original design drafts from the 18th century; and the calico fabrics were new ones using old patterns.
so beautiful, i love the colors in the closeup and the beds are amazing, i like them but would not want to sleep in one. here in the south, they used to have sheer material hanging to keep out the bugs.

What a stunning exhibit! Love the moody lighting round the drape of materials!
ReplyDeleteI shudder thinking of the amount of work that must have gone into those original creations. Maybe the beauty of the bed canopy helped to make up for the discomfort.
ReplyDeleteSo lovely, great shots!
